The Illusion of Objectivity

One might argue that machines offer the allure of objectivity, unfazed by the emotional or social influences that tug at the human decision-making process. While this sells nicely at an AI conference, the truth is far murkier. Machines are only as objective as the data they are given and the frameworks within which they operate. In other words, expecting a machine to be impartial is a bit like asking your cat to do your taxes—it doesn’t understand them, and even if it could, it still might hide a few receipts under the couch.
