Air Inter Flight 148, an Airbus A320, descended at 3,300 feet per minute into a wooded ridge near Mont Sainte-Odile on 20 January 1992, killing 87 of 96 aboard; investigators judged confusion between the autopilot's vertical speed and flight path angle modes quite probable but could not prove it.
